At the start of this month, our team of SwimTrek guides descended upon sunny Colonia St. Jordi for a week of training, bonding and refresher sessions, prior to our main season starting up...
Overall, we had 50+ guides and staff in attendance to help us dive into the 2023 season in the right way! Over the course of our week in Mallorca, we ran through both practical and classroom-based sessions, which touch upon every aspect of guiding. Bringing our returning guides - who have helped make our trips a reality across many seasons of fantastic service - together with brand-new guides (fresh) for this year, we have encouraged an atmosphere of peer-learning and skill-sharing. In this way, we hope to have cemented a love of doing what we do, which truly makes SwimTrek adventures what they are!
Meet The Operations Team
Throughout the course of our guide training, we covered various important company updates and shared our joint vision of a sustainable future, where we as guides and guests can act as stewards of the environments we visit.
Supporting the guides, as well as our global catalogue of trips throughout the year, requires a behind-the-scenes support network. Working closely with our founder, Simon, the Ops team consists of Reggie, Telle, Amy, Naomi and April. Headquartered in Brighton at SwimTrek HQ, this close-knit team enables our guides to get to-and-from locations, as well as helping to transfer equipment, organise scheduling, and generally manage everyday troubleshooting.
What our guides said:
'You have really nailed this guide training! Super well done. I'm very glad that I finally met you all from the office. What an amazing few days in Mallorca...'
New & Returning Guides
From boat skills to first aid refreshers, our guides have completed an engaging boot camp-style programme, which tested them in a variety of scenarios both above and below water. We have also expanded our guides' skills with a selection of support crafts. With each day split into 15-minute increments, we packed in a lot of training in varying environments. All of this culminated in our new guides embarking on a fun 'swimulation', which was run by our returning guides - this put into practice any new skills and knowledge gained throughout the week.
What our guides said:
'It was awesome! I think something that I felt was very valued and invested in during the week. I’m stoked to be accepted into the SwimTrek fam and want to put everything into it!'
Final Ceremony
Our passing out ceremony saw new recruits welcomed to our growing family by swimming through a tunnel of supporters. Splashed, clapped and summarily dunked, each new guide has been initiated and prepared for the adventures ahead. Like every good SwimTrek trip, we also had a final evening of fun and frivolity, before flying off around the world to look after our growing family of SwimTrekkers.
What our guides said:
'It truly was an amazing week. It far exceeded my expectations. Beyond the specific tasks you also really reinforced the SwimTrek culture, spirit, camaraderie, team building and inspiration about the future. I couldn’t be more excited to be a SwimTrek Guide...'
'I just thought the training was excellent and extremely well executed. It has prepared me well for the summer season ahead and I hope this will become an annual event. I loved getting to know more of the guides and meeting more of the staff from HQ...'
